Testing The 2984 - Insuring The Cash

I joined IBM in 1964 and was in Finance for some years. One of my responsibilities at that time was the Company’s insurance. Around the end of the 1960s I think, Product Test was testing the cash issuing terminal  being developed at the Labs. To do this they had to get very large numbers of real bank notes from our bankers – something like £200,000 worth. Security was so tight I was not even allowed to arrange insurance on the phone and had to visit their office in London in person to arrange it. The bonus for me was that they took me to their club for a superb lunch.
