  Colour Display Terminal - Monitor S/No 352X-88-10066
The 3179 is a compact, 7-color, 1920-character, 14-inch CRT colour display terminal. The initial release 3179 was coax connected, a member of the IBM 3270 Information Display System, and part of the Fujisawa developed Gemstone series, code named Pearl. The monitor development was sub-contracted to Hursley. This is a Model 2, compatible with S/36, S/38 and AS/400. The Model 2 interface was via a twin-ax cable to these mid-range systems.

It featured a new, modifiable keyboard. Coax models were functionally equivalent to that provided by both the IBM 3279 Models S2A and S2B. It could be used in existing 3178 or 3278 environments to display four colors with existing field attribute definitions.

The 3179 coax models attached to a 3274 Control Unit, a 3276 Control Unit Display Station (via the Terminal Adapter), or a 4321, 4331, or 4361 Processor (via the Display/Printer Adapter), and later the 3174.

The 3179 was a Customer Set Up box (CSU) and was repaired at country Repair Centres.
