Machine Type:
Relay
Serial Number:
  Wire Contact Latching Relay
Wire contact relays were used for low to medium power switching operations and were widely used in Unit Record equipment (card punches & verifiers, collators, gang punches, interpreters, tabulators). The silver plated contact wires could be removed, the contact surfaces cleaned, and new wires inserted, saving the cost of replacing a whole relay. The relay on display is a latching relay. When picked, the armature is kept transferred by a mechanical latch. To release the relay, the second solenoid is actuated.
