Machine Type:
PC Prototyping Card
Serial Number:
  IBM PC Prototyping Adapter Card
To encourage users to develop their own adapter cards, IBM released a prototyping card. The section near the rear of the card contained standard circuitry for the interface to the PC Bus. The rest of the card had a matrix of plated-through holes together with voltage and ground runs.

The user populated the interface end with the standard recommended components, and then built the adapter circuitry in any way they liked. This example, built by Peter Short (museum curator), is an analogue / digital input / output board. The external interface box provides the inputs and outputs.

This card was used in a PC Portable to monitor the temperature of rechargeable batteries during charging and switch off when the temperature began to rise sharply as the batteries reached full charge.
